With the exception of a few accurate classifications that are tough to deny—like breathtakingly beautiful and utterly unforgettable—Park City isn’t so keen on labels. It’s not a place for a specific type. You don’t have to self-identify as a skier, movie buff, artist, or foodie to come here, though, if you do, you’ll receive a warm welcome and have lots to keep you busy. A wide assortment of year-round events offers fun and entertainment—however you personally define it.
If the thrill of the great outdoors is what you seek, numerous Park City events are served with an unlimited helping of fresh mountain air. Sports enthusiasts love the boost of adrenaline that comes with a trip to the site of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, Utah Olympic Park. This multi-use training facility still gets plenty of action, and you can claim a front-row seat to heart-pumping events like bobsledding and freestyle skiing.
Prefer to be an active participant? Just say the word and suit up for competition. There are clinics and races to challenge your endurance. Or, if you’d like to connect with nature at a more leisurely pace, check out Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter’s guided snowshoe tours and nature walks, for example. The preserve includes nearly 10 miles of public trails, a historic farm, and a diverse wildlife habitat for you to discover.
We don’t care if you’ve “earned” your calories through exercise—you’re going to be hungry, and Park City caters to rumbling tummies. Our award-winning restaurants, breweries, wineries, and retailers thoughtfully prepare mouthwatering bites and sips to satisfy every palate and craving. We’re so proud of our local food and drink that several annual events center around them.
For an epicurean experience worth journaling about, you’ll want to attend Savor the Summit and The Park City Food & Wine Classic, where culinary talents shine in festive environments. We said we weren’t into labels, but it might be fair to add bons vivants to our list of approved terms that describe the people of Park City.
Speaking of fancy types, our charming, down-to-earth town has attracted them in spades every January for over three decades. The Sundance Film Festival is a 10-day celebration of independent storytellers in film—and it’s mecca for those who are fascinated by the silver screen and the superstars who grace it. Thousands of movies are projected in 13 venues throughout town. And if the glow of the big screen isn’t enough exposure, you’ll have an opportunity to bump elbows with leading lights of the entertainment biz at exhibitions, presentations, parties, watering holes, and ski lifts.
Music fan? Park City venues, such as the Eccles Center and the Egyptian Theatre, present budding artists and national touring acts all year long. But summer is a special time when audiences are mesmerized by melodies in the open air.
If your taste in tunes is diverse, the Deer Valley Music Festival could be your ideal outing. This unique five-week long showcase combines the talents of the Utah Symphony and Opera with those of performers in classic rock, country, pop, jazz, and more. Another outdoor festival that brings together big names in music and starry skies is the aptly name St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Night concert series. An evening full of great music, delicious food, and spectacular scenery isn’t one you’ll soon forget.
Is visual art your thing? Of course, we have a festival for that, too, and it’s the longest running arts fest in the state of Utah. The Kimball Arts Festival is held on Historic Main Street every August for an event that includes three days of interactive activities, delicious cuisine, and work from more than 220 jury hand-picked artists. Over 50,000 people attend each year, perhaps you’ll be among them. Proceeds go to the Kimball Art Center, a Park City institution that is dedicated to providing arts access and education to the community and its visitors. It’s the perfect place to see masterpieces from accomplished artists or to create one of your own.
No matter your interests, there’s an event in Park City to capture your attention and your heart. Browse. Explore. Open your mind to the possibilities. We can’t wait to see you in the crowd.
