When I reflect on life-altering moments, it’s often a live musical performance that ignites the spark. With the fourth annual Park City Song Summit approaching, August 14–16, I continue to find inspiration from the 2024 event, where I witnessed the evolution of Primera Linea, a band of 12 to 18-year-olds from Cuba. The exuberance of these youths was palpable from the opening night when Afro-Cuban sensation Cimafunk invited them to perform on stage. When rain prevented their scheduled performance, these tenacious musicians teamed up with artists from the Trombone Shorty Academy for an impromptu New Orleans-esque second line celebration, moving attendees and even esteemed artists (like Daryl “DMC” McDaniels) into a dancing procession.
For me and Primera Linea, the culmination of the 2024 Song Summit was on the main stage, closing night, with a full audience. Mid-performance, Grammy-winning musician Eric Krasno and his sensational “& Friends” band beckoned Primera Linea to join them on stage. Legendary musicians demonstrated the chords to the up-and-coming artists, handed over their instruments, and something magic happened. The young musicians faced thousands of fans and rocked.

In just a few years, Park City Song Summit is gaining Park City (more) global notoriety as an artistic and cultural hub. Founder Ben Anderson was awarded as one of Spin Magazine’s 25 Most Influential People of 2025. Even publications like Rolling Stone are catching on with accolades like, “The annual gathering is a beacon of steadfast hope and positive change.”
The 2025 event features several exciting changes, most notably a relocation of the venue. “We’re bringing the heart of Song Summit to the heart of Park City,” Ben explains. One of Park City’s favorite wellness studios, Park City Yoga Collective, will lead the Mindful Mornings yoga, meditation, and sound baths at Library Park.
Staying true to Song Summit’s ethos of elevating mental health, these activities are free and open to the public—no ticket required. The Jim Santy Auditorium will metamorphose into the Summit Lab nucleus, a space for vulnerable conversations.
The Park City Song Summit hub is City Park, which hosts evening performances and local purveyors. “Being in City Park, we can invite more small businesses from our community to participate. There will be local restaurants with food trucks, local beverage companies, and local vendors,” Ben explains. Businesses along Main Street will also feel the love as late-night shows move from City Park to The Marquis Park City.
The venue shift also emphasizes stewardship and conservation. “We have a wonderful new presenting sponsor called A New Earth Project, and they're doing great things with reducing plastics and improving packaging in the supply chain,” Ben continues. “In Park City, there are lots of eco-driven policies fostered by Park City Municipal… We want to be ambassadors for that.” With Song Summit located in the heart of Park City, transportation is another important element. “We’ll have parking lots at Richardson Flats and Deer Valley, with a shuttle service,” Park City Song Summit Vice President, Julia Rametta shares. “We are encouraging people to take the bus or ride their bike.”
The Mission
Back to Top of ListEmpowering artists is Park City Song Summit’s mission in action. And wellness is the catalyst for this three-day celebration of music and artistic expression. “We support these artists. We are more mindful of their humanity, instead of just treating them as entertainers,” Ben describes. “In some instances, we (the music industry and fans) have strayed from valuing artists, songs, and the stories and emotion in those songs.” Ben, whose warm, genuine smile is a cornerstone of the Summit, asks, “How can we utilize what artists do in their professions to support them better and to better understand the inherent value of music?”
Song Summit artists, their camps, and attendees have the opportunity to cultivate personal wellbeing as the basis of their festival experience. “At Song Summit, our days are intentionally centered around waking up with gratitude and mindfulness,” Ben encourages all participants to join in the Mindful Morning Wellness Activities. “Come to a yoga, meditation, and sound bath session. Take a guided hike through one of our beautiful trails.”
If wellness is the foundation of Song Summit, the heart of the event are the Labs—vulnerable artist-to-artist conversations. “The Labs are our disruptor. It's what makes us different. Let’s sit down in an intimate setting where artists, creatives, and thought leaders can be more vulnerable and express their deepest emotions,” Ben exclaims. “Our special sauce is creating those spaces for wellness, mindfulness, creativity, and understanding.”
The magic of Song Summit is the culmination of self-care and vulnerable conversations that are transmitted through the quality of live performances. “There's something about music that can reach deep into our souls. At Song Summit, we're using that phenomenon,” Ben continues. “At night, we kick our shoes off and dance… That's the moment that you get to take everything that has grown in your heart and your mind during the day, and let it flow out of you.”
When all the Song Summit elements come together, the result is something entirely new. “The dream is that people will leave different than they came, with a new understanding of artists and themselves. That there would be more clarity around social justice, inclusivity, mental illness, and substance abuse,” Ben shares. “In my own way and in Song Summit’s own way, we are trying to change the world and mitigate some of the division. And music is the perfect language and connector to do that.”
The Foundation
Back to Top of ListThe response to Song Summit’s momentum in making a positive impact on the world is the Song Summit Foundation, formed in 2023. “Music impacts our lives. It writes the story of our lives,” Song Summit and Song Summit Foundation’s visionary co-creator, Paige Anderson, explains. The foundation is a response to the question, “How can we make a difference?” Its origin includes sponsoring wellness activations at the festival, such as Mindful Mornings, guided hikes, recovery meet-ups, sober green rooms, and gourmet mocktails. “We started all the wellness activities because the music industry itself has a disproportionately higher rate of suicide, depression, anxiety, and addiction,” Paige continues. “We wanted to create more touchpoints that help with mental health and wellness.”
When Song Summit Foundation hired executive director Meredith Lavitt in 2024, the mission continued to expand to empower youth. The Summit Rising program, which creates an immersive experience for 14- to 22-year-olds at the Park City Song Summit, officially launches at the 2025 event. “The program has a couple of different focuses. There's the performance aspect - all the youth will have an opportunity to perform on our foundation stage,” Meredith explains, that Summit Rising youth will have a dedicated Lab area to cultivate a safe space for vulnerable sharing and conversation. “There's the mentorship piece,” Meredith continues. “The musicians who are performing at Park City Song Summit have the opportunity to connect with the Summit Rising youth to provide feedback, answer questions, and build relationships.” Support continues even after the event, as the Summit Rising participants receive year-round mentorship. Of course, Song Summit culture and self-care take center stage for Summit Rising youth. “The last component is mental health and wellness. We want to make sure that there are discussions around protecting mental health and physical health,” Meredith states. Paige resonates, “Summit Rising is for the youth, so that they can have healthy role models, healthy choices, and learn pathways to get into the music industry.”
Supporting youth from the Park City and Utah community plays a key role in Song Summit Foundation’s outreach. The goal of the Summit Rising program is to have half of the 50 participants from Utah, with approximately half of those youth from Summit County. Additionally, at the 2025 event, the foundation will provide 50 free GA passes on Friday and Saturday, totaling 100 tickets for youth from Summit County.
“We live in a town where community is everything,” Meredith summarizes the foundation’s future in Park City. “There are so many things that bring this community together, and music is one of them.”
