Park City is a far cry from an Australian beach town. But thanks to Five5eeds, located in the Snow Creek shopping center, you can experience a genuine Aussie “brekkie” right here in the midst of a ski town.
When the Percy family — and their five kids, hence the name of the restaurant — relocated to Park City in 2015, they missed Australia’s healthy and delicious food so much they decided to recreate it here, with Executive Chef Emma Leigh Hunsaker helming the kitchen. “Most of the food scene in Melbourne is really healthy and beautiful, and they knew that it would be a perfect fit for Park City,” Hunsaker explains.
Plus, the Park City restaurant gets to do a little recon work, since the seasons are opposite in Australia. “We follow a bunch of cafes in Melbourne,” Hunsaker tells us, “so we can see what they’re doing in the winter season, so we can play with new food ideas to flip over for our winter menu.”
Opened in December 2016, the restaurant’s minimal, bright interior with plenty of greenery makes you feel like you just strolled in from the beach — even though it’s far more likely you’ll be coming in straight from a day on the mountain. The location offers indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a grab-and-go coffee bar in case you’re in a hurry.
In true Aussie café fashion, Five5eeds takes a “purist” approach to coffee, shipping in beans from a premium coffee supplier in Australia. Try the traditional latte, served in a six-ounce glass, or branch out with a beet latte — a pretty pink drink made with beet powder and ginger root powder.
On the menu, you’ll find classic Aussie dishes, such as smashed avocado toast and an acai bowl. Mediterranean influences are also evident in the breakfast panna cotta and the vegetarian Benedict with avocado, olives, artichokes, roasted tomatoes, and a poached egg. Other popular picks include the savory waffle and chook (Aussie slang for chicken) and the Moroccan-inspired shakshuka with spicy sausage — a staff favorite on a cold winter day.
