Overview
The Free Mason Trail is of a hidden gem that is frequented by Prospector neighborhood residents and provides great views of the town as well at both mountain resorts. For added mileage, this trail can be combined with Lost Prospector. What to Expect – Beginning from the trail user parking at White Pine Touring head left on the paved Rail Trail for .3 mile. Look for the trail sign on the right that heads into the trees. Stay right at the next intersection and then 100 yards ahead look for the singletrack trail on the left side that heads up the hill. The trail sign here is also marked as the Lost Prospector Loop. From this point, the trail is a consistent yet mellow climb that winds through gamble oaks, aspens and pine trees. At mile 1.3 the trail opens up and has great views of Park City spanning from Deer Valley Resort to the south all the way to the Canyons Village at Park City Mountain to the north. From this point, the trail stays at a consistent elevation as it parallels Deer Valley Drive below. The next intersection is the 2-mile mark and from here you can either turn around, take a left and continue hiking on the Lost Prospector Trail (link to Lost Prospector) or head right where the trail intersects with Aire Drive.
