When most people think of outdoor swimming, warm summer days are the first thing that comes to mind.

The Last Friday Gallery Stroll in Park City remains one of a handful of free year-round activities in this seasonal town, welcoming locals and visitors dressed for either summer or snow, and with a range of artists and artwork with just as vast an influence.

I’ve always been inspired by skateboarders, their style, skills, persistence, and sense of freedom. They make skateboarding look effortless, almost zen-like, and I’ve been a fan and a semi-passive bystander for a while. I own a couple of boards that I mainly use for cruising around the neighborhood, but I’ve never taken a lesson to really hone in on those fundamentals. Like with any sport, having a good mastery of the basics to build on is key to staying safe and having fun when you’re out getting after it. 

Over the years Park City’s single-track has become the resident star of summer, thrilling hikers and mountain bikers through successive switchbacks, challenging terrain, and groves of glittering Aspens. But for those who are looking for a way to take in our town’s extensive network of connected trails without padded gloves, shorts, or specialized shoes, the paved pathway system, either on foot or with the help of Summit Bike Share’s extensive fleet of electric bikes, has been upgraded to guide locals and visitors from Kimball Junction to Deer Valley, and everywhere in between. 

A black tuxedo cat crosses my path as I walk between Gifts and History, again as I move from Business to Spirituality, and finally, ducks into a hallway reserved for Employees Only, somewhere between Fiction and Kids – his name, is Dolly. 

Some of my absolute favorite memories from my childhood were from our family ski trips. Learning how to ski was one of my favorite things and I looked forward to our annual ski vacation for the entire year.

Bountiful Rocky Mountain vistas in every direction are part of what makes Park City most magical, and thanks to the talents of many entrepreneurial locals there is an abundance of ways to soak up the scenery through brag-worthy experiences. One such offering worth calling attention to is The Viking Yurt located atop the sweeping trails of Park City Mountain.
