What to do on a Family Vacation in Park City, Utah this Summer
April 13, 2023
by Casey Lane
Park City, Utah, in the summer, presents an array of activities for families to enjoy, including fly fishing, concerts, drive-in movies, and various art-related events. Whether you're traveling with small children, grandparents, or in-laws, Park City offers a variety of activities for families beyond the typical mountain biking and hiking options. Many of these activities are available throughout the day and night and during those quiet moments just before nap time.
Utah Olympic Park Flying Aces
Just because the snow is melted doesn’t mean professional winter athletes stop training. Utah Olympic Park was once home to the 2002 Olympics and now serves as a year-round training, museum, and activity center. Visit UOP with the whole family and watch the Flying Aces soar 60’ in the air before landing in the aerated training pool.
PC Mountain Coaster and Alpine Slide
Without the snow, the options for descending down Park City Mountain Resort’s summer trails crack wide open, and aside from the single-track that can be traversed by either foot or bike, the Park City Mountain Coaster and Alpine Slide become thrilling options for families looking for a quick adrenaline rush - no bike shorts or trekking poles necessary.
White Water Rafting
Over the river and through the woods is the well-known Weber River, home to class II+ rapids, making it a great afternoon for families eager to cool off and experience more of Utah’s natural beauty. Book with Utah Outdoor Adventures and read a first-hand account of our team’s amazing experience on the Weber River.
Dining Options
If there’s one thing Park City’s known for, aside from fantastic snow and a world-class trail system – it’s food. From fine dining to sushi to sandwiches, coffee, and five-star desserts, no stone or taste is left unturned. If kids are in tow, say no more. We’ve got a plethora of restaurants, complete with kids’ menus.
Kimball Art Center
While Park City is well known for its outdoor adventures, it's also known for the artistic community it fosters. One of the most popular galleries in town is the Kimball Art Center, where you browse the gallery and can create a masterpiece yourself. From ceramics to painting, drawing to kid-centered crafts, their various classes will have a medium for every party member. And who knows, maybe you'll bring home a handmade souvenir!
Drive-In Movies
Park City Film partners with Utah Olympic Park for their Twilight Drive-In, showing family-friendly movies enjoyed from the comfort of your car. For information, details, tickets, and a listing of shows, please visit the Park City Film website or contact the Utah Olympic Park for a calendar of this season’s viewings.
The Park City Museum
A favorite among visitors and an easy way to learn about Park City’s rich history from the convenience of Main Street, the Park City Museum delves deep into the silver-rich past of our small mining town. Housed in what was originally Historic City Hall this local treasure sees more than 130,000 visitors annually.
Family Fly Fishing
Surrounded by the calm and steady sounds of moving water, fly fishing offers an immersive experience, taking families off the docks and banks and bringing them into the calm fresh waters of Park City’s Provo River. Led by experienced guides and geared up to stay dry, fly fishing is a sensory experience and an incredible memory-maker for any vacation.
