Everything You Need to Know About the 2019 Park City Shot-Ski Event

Living in a ski town like Park City, there’s a subtle yet steady undercurrent of competition. Whether you’re biking, hiking, or shredding through Utah's famous snow, you might notice some friendly rivalry among the sporty types wanting to prove their athletic prowess.

While you expect to find competition on the trails or the slopes, Park City’s Main Street might actually host the town's fiercest rivalry this fall. During the annual Park City Shot Ski Event, organized by the Park City Sunrise Rotary Club, participants vie to break Breckenridge, CO’s record and win the title of World’s Longest Shot Ski.

Last year, Park City pulled through! The 2018 event witnessed 1,275 participants take a shot of High West Rendezvous Rye to break Breckenridge’s record set in January 2018 of 1,266 participants. However, Breck took the lead again in January 2019 with 1,299 participants!

“Our goal for 2019 is 1,310 participants,” says Park City Sunrise Rotary Club member Connie Nelson. “This annual tradition has become yet another way Park City can firmly establish our dominance as the greatest ski town in the country.”

Best of all?  All proceeds (100% after expenses) are used in the Sunrise Rotary Grants Program open to community individuals and organizations supporting the needs of Park City and beyond. “We are excited about our ambitious goal to raise $40,000 for our grant program and see how this fun, lively event will go on to serve our community,” Nelson adds.

Follow @pcshotski on Instagram to find out when 2020 tickets will be available to purchase. Your ticket secures your spot along the shot ski, which is first-come, first-served. It also includes a souvenir shot glass and one drink ticket you can redeem for a complimentary drink at any participating Shot Ski After Party. 

Please note that tickets are non-refundable, and the event will take place rain or shine. Guests must be 21+ to attend and have a valid photo I.D. to participate. 

Stay Hydrated —and Eat Breakfast!

Whether you’re acclimated to the altitude or not (especially if you’re not!), make sure to drink plenty of water before the Shot Ski event. We also recommend coating your stomach with a hearty breakfast before the festivities. Try one of these excellent restaurants in the Old Town area for a delicious breakfast or brunch.

Arrive Early

Like any big event in Park City, traffic can be tricky in the hours leading up to the start of the Shot Ski Event. We suggest taking public transportation such as the free bus system, or grab a bike from one of the many Summit Bike Share stations around town. It’s also a good idea to pick a spot ahead of time to meet your friends so that you can stand near each other along the shot ski.

Stick Around for the After-Party

When you check-in, you’ll also receive a token to enjoy a complimentary libation at one of several after-party locations on Main Street. In 2019, participating bars include High West, Wasatch Brew Pub, No Name Saloon, OP Rockwell, and The Cabin. To add a celebratory element, each bar will offer a signature cocktail made with a High West liquor specially designed for the bar crawl.

In 2018, No Name served a PC Shot Ski Mule, made with High West Silver Oat, house-made ginger simple syrup, lime, angostura bitters, and soda water. Meanwhile, O.P. Rockwell offered an Old Port’s Donkey Punch, featuring High West Double Rye, lime, ginger syrup, bitters, and ginger beer. Things get fun and rowdy on Main Street after this event —another very good reason to take public transportation and leave the car at home.
