Local Foodies Share Their Favorite Dishes and Outdoor Dining Spots

Summers in Park City are truly special. The near endless opportunities to spend time outside enjoying warm days followed by cool nights make for the ultimate summer experience. Outdoor dining is one of the best ways to savor summer in Park City.  With so many outdoor dining options to choose from, we turned to a few local foodies (the experts!) for their favorites...

Kelly Epstein, Mountain Mama Cooks

Kelly's favorite outdoor dining spot: We love Vinto for outdoor dinner, especially during the summer. The kids can play down the stairs by the creek, there always seems to be a pleasant breeze and I love that the kids don't have to be quiet.

Favorite menu item at Vinto: You really can't go wrong no matter what you order. With that being said, I almost always get the V salad to start and a pizza- usually whatever special they are serving that night. Make sure to save room because the butterscotch budino is not to be missed!

Kelly's favorite Vinto cocktail: Vinto serves a vodka lemonade cocktail with sparkling water that is out of this world. Perfect for a hot summers night!

Hud Knight, co-founder of Park City Brewery

Hud's favorite outdoor dining spot: I would have to go with the deck on top of the Boneyard for outdoor dining. I like the Boneyard's views from the deck and unique bar/dining menu. It is scaled up from your general bar cuisine offering and is not hard to find parking as are some of the locations on Main St.

His favorite menu item: The stroganoff burger for their best dish.

Favorite beverage: Anyone of our Park City Brewery beers on draft to pair up with it.

As far as a post ride spot for beers, I would have to say that our Tap Room here at the Brewery is in a pretty prime location. We have both road biking trails on the Frontage Road that have intersections, which lead right to our location at the Summit Center, as well as mountain bike trails like Bad Apple, which literally starts out of our parking lot. Can't match that for convenience....

Heather's favorite outdoor dining spot in Park City is Royal Street Café at Deer Valley. What's not to like about fresh mountain air, mountain bikers whizzing by downhill or on the chairlifts overhead and world-class cuisine on the deck? Located at Silver Lake Lodge, Royal Street Café is at the base of two chairlifts offering lift-served biking and hiking. It's the perfect lunchtime respite to fuel up on high-end American cuisine like the cool gazpacho with lemon dill crème fraiche or the BBQ Sampler of three sliders with tangy Korean bulgogi, a juicy bison burger and a hearty pulled pork sandwich.

Heather's favorite dish at Royal Street Café is the Yellowfin tuna tartare. It is a decadent starter featuring an ocean of sushi-grade yellowfin tuna diced and seasoned with lemon juice and white truffle oil. Accompanied by crispy herb chips dressed with a kicky lime caper aioli and a side of peppery arugula it's great for sharing or as a warm-weather meal by itself.

Her favorite Royal Street cocktail? St. Germain. This cocktail was the winner of the 2009 Park City Cocktail Contest and it's still a sure bet due to its refreshing mix of St. Germain elderflower liqeur, Adami prosecco and a splash of soda water served tall over ice with a fresh citrus garnish.

Chris' favorite place to dine outside: Recently I dined on the deck of Wahso.  It was beautiful and particularly pleasant with the evening sun being shaded by the building. Wahso faces East so it is nice and cool, even in the summer.

Her favorite dish at Wahso: One of my favorite dishes on their menu is the Sea Bass.  It is uniquely prepared and delicious.  My favorite dessert at Wahso is their coconut creme brulee.  It is served in a coconut shell and it is fantastic! I don't really drink anything besides water, so I don't have a favorite.

Park City is an amazing town known for their world class skiing, but what a lot of winter visitors don't know is that Park City summers are equally as rad! What makes it so great? Hiking, biking, concerts, farmers markets, art festivals, beer festivals, parades... the list goes on! Another local's secret... Après bike, Après hike, and Après work are all just as fun as Après-ski. As you can see we Parkites look for any excuse to enjoy a cool beverage and delicious snack on one of the many patios in town.

Perry's favorite outdoor dining spot: One of my favorite summer spots in Park City is the Deer Valley Grocery Cafe. Situated on a pond at the base of Deer Valley, DV Cafe has a large shady patio where you can enjoy food and drink while watching SUPers paddle around. The views of Deer Valley aren't bad either!

Her favorite menu item: The breakfast and lunch menu are to die for, with their Niman Ranch maple bacon BLT being my go-to. Don't forget to save room for dessert! The carrot cake cupcakes are like non-other.

Her favorite Deer Valley Grocery Café cocktail: Their wine and cocktail list is extensive but one of my favorite specialty cocktails is their Desert Rose Margarita. Made with rose lemonade, it is refreshing on a warm summer day in the mountains.

Shirin Spangenberg, Park City Food Tours
Shirin's favorite outdoor dining spot: One of my favorite places for open air dining is Zoom Restaurant located in the old train station at the bottom of Historic Main Street.  Zoom offers a beautiful al fresco dining area where you can relax on their slightly recessed patio and enjoy the outdoors and still be entertained by the festivities on the street. This upscale casual dining experience has a well thought out décor embracing the "wild west," with beautiful off-white umbrellas, wooden deck and dark tables. The whiskey barrel planters, old fashioned oil table lamps and, of course, the 1886 building itself all add to the rustic ambience.

Her favorite Zoom dish: It's hard to pick out one dish because it's all so good, but one of my guilty pleasures is their truffle mac and cheese. This old-time favorite is presented in a cast iron serving dish, and the bits of bacon, the hint of truffle oil, and golden brown crust across the top are all so enticing that you won't want to share this small plate with anyone.

Favorite Zoom cocktail: For a warm day on the deck, a must try is their Moscow Mule. A 1950's throwback of vodka and ginger beer, served in a condensation covered copper mug, is an ideal complement to the cozy atmosphere of Zoom's patio dining.  Friendly service completes the dining experience creating a perfect evening of sipping libations, eating good food and enjoying great company.
