Where to start with Maika Taylor's story? "My grandmother was head of makeup at Warner Brothers," the hair and makeup artist says. "An uncle is Robert Redford's personal makeup artist, and my cousin is Kurt Russel's makeup artist. My father was in special effects makeup and made monsters for a living when I was a kid, which I thought was so cool!"

And that's just the makeup side of the family.

Maika's mom opened the Beauty Zone Hair Salon and Boutique in 1996, "the first tenant at Snow Creek Shopping Center," Maika recalls. "I spent many childhoods afternoons at the store and eventually working the front desk."

"Growing up, my favorite spot was Orion's music store (closed in 2009)," Maika recalls. "Mom would send me to Dan's Market for snacks, and I would make a pitstop at Orion's for the latest CDs."

"Park City always felt like home to me," she adds.

When her mom retired six years ago, Maika was ready." Within a month, I was the new owner!"

Equally skilled in hair and makeup ("Why choose when I can do both?" she laughs), Maika has worked with Sharon Stone, Elizabeth Moss, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Octavia Spencer, Helen Hunt, Ty Sheridan and other stars. But whether on the set in Hollywood or behind the chair in PC, "What I enjoy most is connecting with people and creating art every day," she says. "My art continually challenges me."

Maika's love of connection may stem from her multicultural life. "My mother's entire family is in Japan, and my husband's entire family is in Lithuania," she says. "My best friend lives in Germany. So I love to travel!"

Fortunately, you don't have to travel far to meet this dynamic local artist and businesswoman. Visit Beauty Zone on Snow Creek Drive Monday through Saturday or anytime online at beautyzonepc.com.
