The Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation has collaborated with a number of Olympic venues and host cities to schedule Olympic-sport competitions and a variety of Olympic-related activities throughout the month of February 2012. Park City, the "Alpine Heart of the Games," played host to most of the alpine competitions in 2002. Ten years later, Park City's Olympic Legacy is still burning brightly with a February filled with three Olympic-sport competitions and a number of Olympic-related events and activities set to reignite your Olympic fire within.
- Beginning February 1, a month-long exhibit of official Olympic photographs and memorabilia will be on display at the Kimball Art Center. An "Olympic community share board" will also be available at the Kimball Art Center for members of the community to post their own photographs, memorabilia, pins, stories (on index cards), and whatever else they would like to share about their own Olympic experiences.
- Myles Rademan will present on February 7 his impressive slide show documenting Park City during the Games.
- The Utah Olympic Park will host an Open House on February 9, and the Park City Ice Arena will host a free skate session on February 11. KPCW is working on developing an Olympic-themed "Olympic Tales from the Wasatch Back" for members of the community to share their Olympic experiences from a number of different perspectives (i.e., as Olympic athletes who competed; as Olympic coaches; as spectators; as volunteers at one of the Olympic venues; as SLOC staff; as PCMC staff; as locals who played on Main Street for 16 days; as locals who rented out their homes and left town; etc.) (Submit for review your "Olympic Tale," 500-600 words, to lynnwarepeek@hotmail.com with "Olympic Tales from the Wasatch Back-submission" in the subject line.)
- Three Olympic-sport competitions will take place in the month of February-Freestyle World Cup at Deer Valley Resort (Feb 1-4); Skeleton Intercontinental Cup at UOP (Feb 6-11); and US Snowboarding & Freeskiing Grand Prix at Canyons (Feb 9-12).
- There will also be one night of celebration on Park City's Historic Main Street on February 1 with a number of Olympic-related activities preceding a free concert by Robert Randolph and the Family Band. Pre-concert activities include a Torch Relay (please contact Bob Kollar 435.658.9608 or bob@visitparkcity.com if you have an official torch and uniform and are interested in participating); 2002 Olympic highlight videos; Olympic spirit contest (with valuable prizes) for concert-goers (with valuable prizes dressed up in Olympic uniforms, berets, hats, pins, etc.); a commemorative 10-year Olympic Anniversary pin; official Olympic mascots on Main Street; recognition of Olympians and Paralympians from the past (2002 athletes), present (current Olympic team members), and future (Olympic-sport development teams in Park City); and a fireworks show to close out the night of festivities.
